World record holder, Tobi Amusan, will headline Nigeria’s campaign at the 12th leg of the 2025 Diamond League in Silesia, Poland, on Saturday, August 16, as four of the country’s elite athletes seek crucial points to qualify for the season-ending final in Zurich.
Fresh from winning her fifth national title in Lagos, Amusan is chasing a record-extending fourth Diamond Trophy. This feat would further cement her status as one of the most dominant hurdlers in the competition’s history. The women’s 100m hurdles in Silesia marks her sixth Diamond League appearance this season. She has already secured victory in Rabat in May, clocked a season’s best of 12.24s in Paris, and placed second with 12.38s in Oregon in July.

Currently ranked 10th in the world, the Nigerian sits second on the Diamond League points table for her event with 17 points, trailing only Grace Stark of the United States, who leads with 35 points. A strong finish in Silesia could seal her qualification for Zurich. However, she faces a formidable field including Masai Russell (world No. 3), Ackera Nugent (world No. 4), and 2023 world champion Danielle Williams.
Amusan will be joined in Poland by Favour Ofili, who is set to make her 2025 Diamond League debut in the women’s 200m; Ezekiel Nathaniel, the 22-year-old 400m hurdler; and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, the African record holder in the men’s shot put, who is aiming to strengthen his qualification bid for Zurich.

For Nigeria, the Silesia meet represents a pivotal moment in this year’s Diamond League campaign. Strong performances from the quartet would secure final berths and showcase the country’s growing influence on the global athletics stage.
