Spotify has officially teamed up with OpenAI’s ChatGPT to give listeners a more personalised way to discover music and podcasts. Starting Monday, October 6, both Spotify Free and Premium users can link their accounts to ChatGPT and prompt the AI to suggest new songs, artistes, albums, playlists, or podcast episodes tailored to their tastes.
The integration is entirely opt-in, meaning users can connect or disconnect their accounts at any time. Importantly, Spotify is not sharing any of its music, podcasts, lyrics, or other audio content with OpenAI for AI training purposes. Example prompts include, “Make a playlist with some Latin artistes that are on my heavy rotation”, or “I need something to keep me in the zone. Can you pull up a Focus Mix?”.
This partnership builds on Spotify’s recent expansions, which have integrated the platform with Alexa, Google Home, Volvo, Samsung, and Sonos, among others. The ChatGPT feature is now live in English across 145 countries, available on both web and mobile platforms (iOS and Android).

The announcement follows Spotify’s recent update to its AI policies, which aim to curb harmful uses of AI-generated music, such as spam and impersonation, while supporting artistes who use AI tools responsibly to enhance creativity. As Spotify’s head of music, Charlie Hellman, explained, “We hope that artistes’ use of AI production tools will enable them to be more creative than ever, create more content that excites fans, and offer the best possible experience on Spotify”.
Spotify has also rolled out several platform upgrades in recent months, including lossless audio for Premium users, the “Mix With Spotify” feature, and the return of direct messaging between users.

Sten Garmark, Spotify’s senior VP and global head of consumer experience, summarised the vision: “By bringing Spotify into ChatGPT, we’re creating a powerful new way for fans to connect with the artistes and creators they love conversationally, whenever inspiration strikes”.
The integration signals Spotify’s continued push to make music discovery smarter, more intuitive, and more responsive to listeners’ unique tastes in an age of AI-driven experiences, while creating a more interactive and engaging platform that bridges the gap between fans and the music they love.
