South African pop star, Tyla, has been named Favourite Global Music Star (Africa) at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, adding to her growing collection of international accolades. She won ahead of fellow nominated artistes from Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America in one of the night’s most competitive categories.

Beyond the win, Tyla made history as the first African artiste to host the iconic awards show, held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The 23-year-old star opened the show with an energetic “Best of Summer” dance set alongside DJ Benny Blanco, complete with high-energy choreography and a surprise cameo from Smurfette.
During her acceptance speech, the 23-year-old singer said: “This means the world to me, to represent Africa on a global stage and be recognised by all of you amazing kids out there. Wow. Thank you for believing in me and dancing with me. Africa to the world!”.

The Nickelodeon win marks another landmark moment in Tyla’s breakout journey, following her Grammy win, American Music Award, and different honours from international platforms. Her appearance at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards reflects her rising global influence and the growing visibility of African talent in mainstream pop culture.
