Award-winning Kenyan theatre company, Igiza Arts Production, has announced its latest original stage play titled The Anointed Cartel.
Produced by Wreiner Mandu and written by Martin Abuya, The Anointed Cartel is billed as a bold, satirical stage play unmasking power and corruption in sacred religious institutions, and exploring the complex layers of deception in society’s most revered spaces. The Anointed Cartel hopes to spark both laughter and reflection in its audience, challenging them to confront the abuse of power, spiritual manipulation, and systemic betrayal.
Igiza Arts has built a reputation for tackling social and political themes with depth and nuance. Their productions include Severed Justice, about Kenya’s 2024 anti-government protests, and The Waiting Room, a critique of Kenya’s struggling healthcare system. The company’s play Flight 1963 won the Kenya Theatre Award for Best Original Play in 2024, and Igiza Arts was named Theatre Company of the Year earlier this year.

“Known for our socially charged storytelling and use of satire, Igiza Arts continues its tradition of bold commentary through theatre—this time exploring the nexus of religion, politics, and power”, says Abuya, who is also the creative director at Igiza Arts. “This new piece carries the same spirit of urgency, depth, and wit.”
The Anointed Cartel will be performed at the Kenya National Theatre Main Auditorium on the 31st of May and the 1st of June 2025, with two showings at 3pm and 6pm per day.
