Nigerian music star, Ayra Starr, has earned her first-ever win at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, taking home the coveted ‘Best International Act’ prize at the 2025 ceremony held on Monday night, June 9th, at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
Hosted by comedian and actor Kevin Hart for the second time, the star-studded event celebrated Black excellence across music, film, sports, and entertainment. Ayra Starr’s victory marks a significant milestone in her soaring career, following a string of successful releases and global collaborations that have solidified her position on the international stage.

Also spotlighted during the ceremony was British-Nigerian actress and singer, Cynthia Erivo, who triumphed in the ‘Best Actress’ category. She was also nominated under the ‘BET Her’ category for her stirring duet, “Defying Gravity”, with Ariana Grande, but lost to Summer Walker.
The night featured standout performances from an A-list lineup that included Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, Playboi Carti, Mariah Carey, Andra Day, Snoop Dogg, Babyface, and Jennifer Hudson.

The BET Awards, founded in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, celebrate Black entertainers and other minorities in music, film, sports, and philanthropy. The annual ceremony, broadcast live on BET, continues to serve as a cultural touchstone for celebrating Black artistry and achievement.
