Writer-director, Fatimah Binta Gimsay, known for her acclaimed short films, Ijo (2022) and Fine Girl (2025), is set to release a new coming-of-age drama, Lowkey Adults, premiering on 12th July, 2025, on YouTube.

Set against the backdrop of Nigerian youth culture, Lowkey Adults hopes to capture the nuances of the chaotic web of young adulthood, exploring the joys and challenges that come with transitioning into adulthood, including self-discovery, friendships, heartbreaks, and life’s other pressures.

Susan Ganchung Pwajok stars in the lead role, with a young supporting cast that includes Shamz Garuba, Akintoba Adeoluwa, Arik Mallum, and Omasalewa Fafowora.

Lowkey Adults is personal and incredibly relevant. It’s about the messy in-between space where we’re no longer kids, but not quite the adults we thought we’d be. We wanted to tell a story that feels real, current, and honest”, says Gimsay, who also serves as executive producer on the film, along with Susan Ganchung Pwajok.

Pwajok, who makes her debut as a producer with Lowkey Adults, adds: “Producing and starring in this film was both terrifying and thrilling. I saw so much of myself in the story, and I know so many people will, too. This project is a love letter to our generation.”

With its relatable themes, young cast, and accessible release, Lowkey Adults joins a growing catalogue of Nollywood young adult titles engaging directly with the complexities of youth and aimed at a growing, online-first audience that is presently underserved in Nigeria’s film industry.
