Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, Tems, has announced the Leading Vibe Initiative, a new platform created to support, connect, and amplify young women in music across Africa, with plans to expand its reach globally.
The programme begins this August in Lagos, offering emerging artistes, songwriters, and producers practical resources, mentorship and industry connections. Additional roll‑outs are planned for other African hubs later this year, followed by major cities worldwide.
Tems developed the initiative in response to her own experience as a self‑taught artiste navigating an industry where female representation remains limited. According to recent studies, women account for only 22 percent of artistes worldwide, 12.8 percent of songwriters, and just 3 percent of music producers.

While sharing the news on X (formerly Twitter), Tems said in a video: “My goal with the Leading Vibe Initiative is to help discover and support talented young women who have the potential to redefine the industry. By providing access, tools and opportunity, we’re creating space for them to find their voices, step into their power and shape the future of music across the continent and globally”.
The inaugural Lagos programme (8–9 August) is open to Nigerian female artistes, songwriters, and producers aged 18 to 35. Participants will receive hands-on training, creative workshops, masterclasses, and mentorship through a growing network of partners that includes leading artistes, executives, and industry figures.
Tems’ Leading Vibe Initiative aims to increase female representation across performance, production, songwriting and the business of music, ushering in a new era of opportunity for women on the continent and beyond.
