Afrocritik Announces Shortlist for 2024 Prize for Criticism

Afrocritik unveils the shortlist for its inaugural Prize for Criticism. The shortlisted writers, all hailing from Nigeria, are Kolade Daniella Oluwatomisin, Olúwatúnmiṣe Ọ̀tọ̀lórìn Akìgbógun, Faith Emitse, Victory Adewoye, and Evidence Egwuono Adjarho.

Afrocritik Announces Shortlist for 2024 Prize for Criticism

These writers were chosen for their perceptive critique of the themes in the reviewed works and their command of language. This year’s competition focused on literature, inviting reviews of three works by African writers: Affection & Other Accidents by Dami Ajayi, Dreaming of Ways to Understand You by Jerry Chiemeke, and His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie.

The panel of judges comprises acclaimed African writers, Adedayo Agarau, Peter Ngila Njeri, Gloria Mwaniga Odary, and Joshua Chizoma. Prizes totalling $600 will be awarded to the top three reviews, with the winner receiving a cash prize of $300, and the first and second runners-up receiving $200 and $100, respectively. All shortlisted works will be published on the Afrocritik website.
