Big news for fans of the King of Boys creator as Kemi Adetiba’s highly anticipated TV series, To Kill a Monkey, is set to premiere on Netflix on 18th July, 2025. An eight-part crime thriller series, To Kill a Monkey is produced by Kemi Adetiba Visuals and created, written and directed by Adetiba, with the just-released trailer already making waves on social media.

To Kill a Monkey features an interesting cast that includes William Benson, Bucci Franklin, Stella Damasus, Bimbo Akintola, Ireti Doyle, Chidi Mokeme, Teniola Aladese, Lilian Afegbai, Sunshine Roseman, and Michael Ejoor. William Benson stars in the lead as an impoverished family man whose luck changes after he reunites with an old friend, played by Bucci Franklin.

The official synopsis made available to the press as far back as February 2024 reads: “Efemini, a down-on-his-luck everyman, whose life changes forever after a chance meeting with an old friend. Forced by circumstance to suppress his principles and explore a life of cybercrime, he finds himself making ever-greater moral compromises to stay ahead of the consequences of his new choices… and broadening tastes.”

The series marks the long-awaited return of the music video director turned filmmaker who made her directorial debut in film with the box office romcom hit, The Wedding Party (2016) and revived the crime thriller genre in Nollywood with the feature film, King of Boys in 2018 and its sequel TV series, King of Boys: The Return of the King in 2021.

We expect to be seeing more of the Africa Movie Academy Award-nominated director soon, as King of Boys will return as a theatrical release on Christmas day, 25th December 2025, as earlier announced by Adetiba in January of this year.
