“Ogechi” is a catchy tune that belongs to the canon of Nigeria’s love songs.

Fast-rising Nigerian artistes, Agubosim Favour Brown (Brown Joel), Sopuru Precious (Boypee), and Favour Ekah Ernest (Hycee), have sought to make their mark in the Afro-pop scene. The trio are united not just by their emerging status but also through a shared sonic style: the inventive songwriting and dexterous meld of R&B and Afro-pop music. On the new TikTok-made hit, “Ogechi”, they bring their A-game to create a captivating love tune.

Produced by Azuri, the percussion-laden “Ogechi” is an infectious song with obvious Afrobeats elements, nestled between Ogene and Afro-pop sound. The track finds the artistes crafting sugar-coated lines which showcase the depth and scope of their attraction to a love interest. The line, “Plenty kele for my life na you I choose”, sees Hyce expressing devotion to his muse despite several attractions, over pacy percussion drums.

BoyPee delivers on the second verse as he oscillates between genuine affection and youthful hedonism with lines like, “Breathing in your love is all I do for a living. Ahhh, Tempted to touch ur foreign booty”,  while the chorus, helmed by Brown Joel’s striking voice and aching cadence, carries the emotion further out. His line, “Turn around make I spray you all my dollar now”, suggests a willingness to shower her with material gifts.

The 2 minutes and 32 seconds of “Ogechi” offer novelty, evident from the silky harmony of the vocal cadence coupled with the flow in all three languages used. This catchy tune belongs to the canon of Nigeria’s love songs, and it will have you hitting repeat.
