Strut Records has announced the official reissue of Simigwa, the 1975 Highlife classic by Ghanaian music legend, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley. The reissue marks the first in a series of releases by Strut, paying homage to the Essiebons label, a cornerstone of Ghanaian music history.

Founded in 1959 by Dick Essilfie-Bondzie, Essiebons played a pivotal role in shaping the Highlife scene, spotlighting acts like C.K. Mann, Ebo Taylor, and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley. Simigwa, co-written and produced by Ebo Taylor, introduced a fusion of Highlife, Funk, and Soul, birthing Ambolley’s distinct Simigwa style that inspired generations of Ghanaian artistes.
