The 2025 Tribeca Festival has announced that Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, a feature documentary on Nigerian global Afro-Pop star, Wizkid, will make its world premiere at this year’s edition of the festival, scheduled to run from June 4 to 15 in New York City.
The documentary traces Wizkid’s evolution from the streets of Lagos to global superstardom. According to the official synopsis, the film “follows Wizkid’s rise as a global icon reshaping how Africa is seen — and heard — around the world”. Blending behind-the-scenes footage, high-octane performances, and cultural commentary, the documentary positions Wizkid’s journey as a lens into broader themes of identity, global perception, and artistic responsibility.

Directed by Karam Gill and produced alongside Daniel Malikyar, Wizkid: Long Live Lagos will screen under Tribeca’s Spotlight section, a curated programme that pairs film premieres with live performances, in-depth conversations, or immersive experiences that extend storytelling beyond the screen.

The documentary is part of a diverse lineup of music-centred titles debuting at this year’s festival, including projects featuring Miley Cyrus, Metallica, Billy Idol, and Depeche Mode.
Presented by OKX, the Tribeca Festival remains one of the world’s leading showcases for film, music, and immersive storytelling, drawing artists and audiences from across the globe. With Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, Wizkid adds another dimension to his legacy and expands his influence into cinema.
