In a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s film industry, two women-led film companies—Azure Studios Nigeria and Lolia Studios—collaborated to host From Set to Storage: The Art of Data Handling, a pioneering three-day workshop focused on the often-overlooked aspect of filmmaking: data management.
Held from March 19th to 21st, 2025, the workshop aimed to bridge the gap between production and post-production, equipping filmmakers—particularly women—with essential knowledge and tools to meet global industry standards. More than just technical training, the event marked a bold push for intentional collaboration in Nigeria’s evolving film ecosystem.
At the core of the initiative were three seasoned facilitators. Olayinka Kasali, a Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) with experience on Breath of Life, The Artifact, and Finding Messiah, led sessions on digital imaging workflows. Damilola Adeyeri, known for his work on Lisabi, Christmas in Lagos, and 3 Working Days, provided insights into aligning Nollywood’s workflow with international standards. Ates Brown, founder of Lolia Studios, guided participants through data management fundamentals, ensuring best practices from set to storage.
The workshop unfolded in structured phases, beginning with foundational training in data handling and DIT workflows. As the sessions progressed, intermediate participants explored complex workflow structures, troubleshooting techniques, and data integrity’s role in high-quality film production.
The final day saw a broader industry conversation, bringing together key experts—including Allen Onyige, Awa Holmes, Adio Solanke, Adeniyi “Taj” Joseph, Paballo Molingoane, Ossai Jerry, and Emiola Fagbenle—who shared insights on workflow efficiencies and the future of film technology in Nigeria.
For the women leading this initiative, the timing of the workshop during Women’s Month carried deep significance. Beyond technical training, From Set to Storage was a powerful statement on women’s involvement and leadership in film technology.
