Tyla Wins Best Afrobeats at the 2025 MTV VMAs

Tyla becomes the most awarded African artiste in VMA history, boasting two wins.

South African superstar, Tyla, has been announced as the winner of the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards with her hit single “PUSH 2 START”. The announcement, made on Monday morning, cements Tyla’s growing dominance and showcases the rising influence of African artistes on the world stage.

With this award, Tyla becomes the most awarded African artiste in VMA history, boasting two wins. She claimed her first VMA trophy in 2024 for “Water”, a record-breaking single that propelled her into global superstardom. This year, she beat out a strong lineup that included Burna Boy, Tems, Asake, Ayra Starr, Moliy, and Rema.

The 2025 ceremony also spotlighted other global stars. Lady Gaga emerged as the biggest winner with four awards, including ‘Artiste of the Year’. Ariana Grande took home three, including ‘Video of the Year’ for “Brighter Days Ahead”, and presented the prestigious ‘Video Vanguard Award’ to Mariah Carey.
