The 2026 Docubox Creative Producers Lab, an initiative of Docubox East African Film Fund, has unveiled seven Kenyan teams as cohorts for the inaugural feature fiction development lab, which constitutes part of the Documentary International Partnership Summit 2026. This latest announcement follows an open call for fiction films across all genres, set in Kenya with a runtime between 60 and 120 minutes.
Each team, composed of a screenwriter and producer, will partake in a five-day physical lab, followed by virtual support from script doctors and story consultants, and get connected with international partners, funders and industry stakeholders.
Among the selected projects and teams are The Four Musketeers of Kibra, with writer Arnold Mwanjila and producer Mary Wanjiku; Rugano rwa Wambui, with writer Mercy Kamau and producer Njuguna Ng’ang’a; Kimbia, with writer Karanja Ng’endo and producer Habiba Gicheru; and Nightmare High, developed by writer Vincent Murimi Mbui and producer Tecla Joan Ekirapa.

The cohort is completed by Faziah, with writer Trevor Momanyi and producer Leilah Namwezi; Written in Heaven, with writer Joash Omondi and producer Yasmin Hassan; and Bloodland, a project from writer Cherotich Kibet and producer Sally Ngoiri.
The forthcoming Feature Fiction Development Lab signifies an expansion of Docubox’s longstanding commitment to nurturing East African storytellers and strengthening the region’s film development ecosystem beyond documentary filmmaking.
Through the offer of mentorship, industry access and support, the initiative seeks to position emerging Kenyan filmmakers for stronger participation in regional and international co-production and financing spaces.
