Moveee has announced the launch of Culture Narratives, a quarterly digital publication dedicated to publishing deeply personal essays that explore how individuals think about culture, identity, ambition, and the realities of modern life.

The initiative aims to create an intimate space for reflective storytelling, positioning lived experience as a legitimate form of intellectual contribution while preserving personal narratives as part of a broader global cultural archive.

Culture Narratives will feature between 8 and 10 long-form essays per issue, written in the first person and centred on the intersection between private lives and the cultural environments that shape them. The publication seeks to capture the complexities of modern life across Africa and the diaspora, with themes spanning identity, personal ambition, financial realities, relationships, mental health, migration, creative work, and the ongoing tension between heritage and modernity.

In addition to these themes, the publication will also examine the influence of cultural touchpoints such as film, literature, music, and art in shaping worldviews.

The editorial focus will be on reflective narrative writing grounded in real-life experiences, with an emphasis on emotionally honest and thoughtfully constructed essays designed to engage readers who value depth and cultural nuance. Essays will range between 1,500 and 3,500 words.

Culture Narratives will be released as a quarterly digital magazine, with selected contributors receiving a $10 honorarium for their work.

Writers are invited to submit original, unpublished essays that tell specific personal stories while offering broader insight into culture, identity, and personal growth. Moveee says the publication forms part of its continued effort to create platforms that amplify voices from diverse backgrounds and preserve stories that might otherwise go unheard.

The open call for submissions is currently ongoing, with entries set to close on April 10, 2026. Submissions for the inaugural issue are now open and can be done via this link.
